The Yemeni Ministry of Oil and Minerals, part of the internationally recognized government, has firmly denied rumors regarding the privatization of certain sectors within PetroMasila, the country’s oil exploration and production company. This clarification was issued on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
A ministry source stated that the circulating rumors are baseless and aim to disrupt the operations of national companies. According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, the source highlighted the crucial role that national companies, particularly PetroMasila, play in serving the country amid the complex challenges posed by the ongoing war instigated by the Houthi group, which is globally recognized as a terrorist organization.
The source emphasized that the ministry and its affiliated companies are fulfilling their responsibilities effectively, despite facing significant obstacles, including the targeting of oil export ports and the cessation of exports for over two years due to Houthi terrorist attacks.
The ministry urged media outlets and social media users to refrain from spreading unfounded rumors and to rely on official sources, warning that believing such misinformation could adversely affect economic stability and the operations of national and investment companies in Yemen.
Previously, local websites and activists had circulated allegations that the Yemeni Oil Ministry was planning to privatize some sectors of PetroMasila.
