In a strategic meeting held on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, Yemen’s Ministry of Awqaf and Guidance convened with local offices in Marib and Al-Jawf to finalize arrangements for the annual Quranic competition. The session was chaired by Sheikh Hassan Sheikh, Deputy Minister for Quran Memorization.

The meeting reviewed reports from the directors of the Awqaf offices in Marib and Al-Jawf, Hassan Al-Qubaisi and Hussein Wasan, detailing preparations for the preliminary rounds scheduled to kick off next Monday, according to Yemen’s official news agency, Saba.

This year’s competition will feature five categories: recitation with the ten readings, complete memorization of the Quran, junior memorization, Tajweed (rules of recitation), and a category for the Adhan, exclusively for male participants.

Sheikh Hassan praised the diligent efforts of both offices in organizing the event, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to nurturing talent among Quranic memorizers and fostering healthy competition to enhance their skills.

Winners of the preliminary rounds will represent their provinces in the second stage of the competition, which will take place in the temporary capital of Aden in January, where national champions will be determined.

Additionally, Sheikh Hassan announced that provincial winners would participate in the "Read and Recite" program, which will be recorded during the month of Sha'ban and broadcasted on television during Ramadan.

He also highlighted the ministry's intention to include these winners in international and regional Quranic competitions, ensuring fair representation for all provinces and showcasing Yemen’s talent on the global stage.
