On the evening of December 26, 2024, the Israeli military launched what is being described as the most intense airstrikes yet on targets in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, and the coastal city of Hodeidah.
Local sources reported to Barran Press that seven airstrikes hit Sana’a alone, targeting key locations including Sana’a International Airport, the Dilmi Air Base to the east, and the Hiziaz power station to the south. The strikes caused extensive damage to the airport’s main terminal, igniting fires on the runway, and there are reports of civilian casualties.
A spokesperson for the Houthi movement stated that two individuals were killed and others injured in the attacks on the airport. Other reports indicated that the Israeli strikes also targeted residences believed to belong to Houthi leaders in the al-Jaraf neighborhood of Sana’a, although the group has not confirmed any casualties among its ranks.
Israeli military sources cited by the Israeli Army Radio confirmed that the airstrikes targeted facilities in both Sana’a and Hodeidah. Channel 14 reported that the Israeli aircraft succeeded in disabling Sana’a International Airport by destroying the control tower.
In Hodeidah, residents reported three Israeli airstrikes on various locations, including the port, which had previously been targeted. Houthi-affiliated media indicated that the strikes also hit the Ras Khatib power station and the Ras Isa port.
According to Israeli media outlet Walla, dozens of Israeli aircraft participated in the assault on both Sana’a and Hodeidah. The Israeli Army Radio noted that these attacks are part of a new campaign aimed at the Houthis, emphasizing that these strikes differ significantly from those conducted in the past.
