On December 26, 2024, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, declared himself “safe” after the Israeli airstrikes targeted Sana’a International Airport, where he was present during the assault.
In a statement shared on X (reviewed by Barran Press), Dr. Tedros acknowledged damage to infrastructure and confirmed that one member of their flight crew was injured. He reported that at least two people were killed at the airport during the strikes and noted that other UN personnel were also safe, although their departure has been delayed pending repairs.
Earlier that day, Israeli aircraft conducted airstrikes around the Dilmi Air Base and Sana’a International Airport, as well as targeting the Hizez power station. Additional airstrikes hit the port of Hodeidah and various energy and oil facilities.
