On December 29, 2024, military sources reported that the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, has resumed attacks on Yemen's army positions and civilian homes in Taiz Province, located in the southwest of the country.
According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, Houthi militants shelled military sites in the air defense area west of Taiz city with artillery. The group intensified its bombardment, targeting homes and villages in the Shaqab area southeast of Taiz, as well as residential neighborhoods in the Al-Arbaeen district, northwest of the city.
In response to the escalating violence, a military meeting was convened in Taiz, chaired by Governor Nabil Shamsan, who also heads the security committee. The meeting included key military leaders, such as Major General Khalid Fadl, commander of the Taiz axis, and Major General Abubakr Al-Jabouli, commander of the Tor Al-Bahah axis.
During the meeting, Shamsan emphasized the importance of cooperation between the military axes, highlighting the courage displayed by Yemeni forces in their ongoing fight against the Houthis. He stressed the need for joint military and security efforts that serve the citizens across the districts of Taiz and Lahij, while also addressing legal violations and enhancing coordination for common objectives.
The military leaders reviewed the current situation on the frontlines, discussing the Houthi attempts to target military positions and the resilience demonstrated by Yemeni forces in repelling these assaults. They also explored avenues for increased collaboration and coordination to bolster the effectiveness of their military operations and ensure security for residents in both provinces.
