The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology in Aden has forecast extremely cold weather conditions for Yemen, particularly in mountainous regions, as the country prepares for a significant drop in temperatures. On December 30, 2024, the agency announced that night and early morning temperatures will be particularly severe in these areas.

According to the agency's latest report, cold to very cold weather is expected in the mountainous regions of Taiz, Lahij, and Abyan, as well as the highlands and plateaus of Shabwa, Hadramout, and Al-Mahra.

Coastal areas are likely to experience partly cloudy skies with mild temperatures, along with sporadic rainfall in parts of the southern coasts and the Socotra Archipelago. Active winds are anticipated in Socotra, Bab Al-Mandab, and western coasts, with speeds ranging from 15 to 25 knots.

The report also indicates that desert regions and inland plateaus will have moderate daytime temperatures but will turn cold or relatively cold at night, accompanied by moderate winds that may stir up dust and sand.

The agency provided specific temperature forecasts for various provinces for Monday, including: Aden (29°C/23°C), Sana'a (25°C/2°C), Mukalla (28°C/22°C), Socotra (28°C/18°C), Al-Ghaydah (29°C/17°C), Sayun (28°C/10°C), Taiz (25°C/12°C), Al-Dhale (23°C/11°C), Marib (27°C/11°C), Ateeq (27°C/12°C), Lahij (30°C/21°C), Al-Hudaydah (30°C/23°C), and Zinjibar (28°C/22°C).

The National Center for Meteorology is warning that temperatures in Amran province could drop to just one degree Celsius on Tuesday morning, with Dhammar and Sana'a expected to reach two degrees.

Residents, especially the elderly and children in mountainous areas, are advised to take precautions against the cold, as are farmers and livestock owners, who should be prepared for the expected drop in temperatures.
