On December 30, 2024, Dr. Qassem Baheeb, Yemen's Minister of Public Health and Population, announced significant initiatives aimed at introducing vital vaccines to prevent the spread of cancer. This declaration was made during the official launch of the National Cancer Control Strategy for 2025-2030 in Aden, the country's temporary capital.

The event, attended by various health officials and specialists, highlighted the ministry's commitment to combatting the growing cancer crisis that poses a serious threat to Yemen's healthcare system. Minister Baheeb emphasized the urgent need to achieve the objectives outlined in the strategy, particularly as cancer cases have surged in recent years.

He also revealed plans for several developmental projects set to commence soon in Aden and other provinces, calling for collaboration across regions to establish treatment centers for cancer patients.

The Minister stressed the importance of enhancing preventive measures to reduce cancer incidence and establishing dedicated treatment facilities to meet these goals. He praised the efforts of the National Cancer Control Program's staff and its partners, including the World Health Organization.

The National Cancer Control Strategy encompasses various aspects related to cancer in Yemen, including its objectives, priority actions, components, and the establishment of a cancer control support fund alongside human resources and program management.
