On December 30, 2024, the United Kingdom expressed its deep concern regarding Israeli airstrikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Yemen. The call for adherence to international humanitarian law was made by Ambassador Barbara Woodward, the UK's permanent representative to the United Nations, during a Security Council meeting focused on threats to international peace and security.

Woodward highlighted the UK's serious apprehensions about the ongoing Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, noting that such reckless actions exacerbate the already dire humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen. She emphasized that a comprehensive political settlement remains the best path toward a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Yemen.

The ambassador attributed the escalating aggression of the Houthis to Iran’s longstanding financial and military support. In her closing remarks, she called for de-escalation and an end to the conflict in the region, reaffirming the UK's commitment to achieving the long-awaited peace and security for the people of Yemen.

In recent days, Israeli forces have conducted a series of airstrikes targeting civilian sites in the capital, Sana'a, and the Houthi-controlled province of Al Hudaydah. These strikes have included attacks on Sana'a International Airport, the Dhaban and Hizez power stations, as well as the Ras Khatib station and the ports of Al Hudaydah and Ras Isa, in response to Houthi assaults.
