On December 30, 2024, violent tribal clashes broke out in the city of Rad'a, located in the Bayda Governorate of central Yemen, following the killing of a member of the Al-Salahi tribe. According to local sources, a young man named Mashhoor Mohammed Abdullah Qahil Al-Jufi was shot dead by armed members of the Al-Salahi tribe, sparking intense armed confrontations.
The clashes, which erupted around 10 PM local time, have escalated into fierce fighting involving heavy, medium, and light weaponry between the Al-Jufi and Al-Salahi tribes. This unrest is rooted in a longstanding tribal feud that dates back five years.
Reports indicate that the violence has resulted in multiple injuries, including among civilians, as the Al-Jufi tribe has surrounded several homes belonging to the Al-Salahi tribe in Rad'a. Eyewitnesses noted that both sides are employing heavy weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), creating a state of panic among local residents.
As the situation remains volatile, the potential for further escalation poses significant risks to the already fragile security environment in the region.
