On December 31, 2024, Israeli public broadcaster Kan reported that the Israeli Defense Ministry's rehabilitation department is seeing approximately 1,000 injuries each month due to the ongoing war in Gaza, as well as the recently concluded conflict in Lebanon, which ended on November 26.
Since the outbreak of hostilities on October 7, 2023, over 13,500 injuries have been recorded in the ministry's rehabilitation division. Alarmingly, 51% of the injured are under the age of 30, and 43% are suffering from psychological trauma.
As of August, the number of disabled Israeli soldiers receiving treatment in the rehabilitation department from all wars has reached 72,056, with more than 10,000 added during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Israeli Defense Ministry has estimated that by the end of this year, the rehabilitation department will need to support around 82,000 disabled military personnel, indicating an increase of over 20,000 injured due to the current war.
However, the Israeli military has officially acknowledged only 5,550 soldiers and officers injured since the beginning of the conflict, with 2,504 injured since the launch of ground operations in Gaza on October 27. The military has not provided figures for injuries sustained during the Lebanon war, from which Israeli forces have yet to withdraw fully.
