TAIZ, Yemen — On January 1, 2025, local authorities in Taiz announced the commencement of salary payments for November and December 2024 for all state employees in the province.

According to a government source from the Taiz Financial Administration, financial reinforcements and approvals from the Central Bank for the salaries of the past two months have reached the bank branch in Taiz, facilitating the disbursement to local government offices.

The source stated to "Barran Press," "The process of disbursing salaries has been completed by the bank branch, and payments for most government employees will begin this evening, with funds deposited into their accounts via Al-Karimi Microfinance Bank."

This salary distribution comes amid escalating protests and the suspension of educational activities since December 22, as teachers across Taiz have been on strike.

Earlier today, the Taiz Teachers' Syndicate urged all educators to participate in a significant rally dubbed the "Dignity March" scheduled for Thursday, demanding timely payment of teachers' salaries and restructuring of wages to match the rising cost of living.

In a related development, the University of Taiz Faculty and Assistant Faculty Syndicate announced a comprehensive strike starting Saturday, January 4, 2025, to advocate for improved living conditions and the payment of overdue financial entitlements.

The syndicate, in a statement shared with "Bran Press," expressed disappointment at the lack of governmental response to their escalating demands, which began with simple protests and progressed to withholding exam results.

Their list of demands includes timely salary payments at the end of each month, immediate disbursement of all arrears, a restructured salary system reflecting pre-2014 values, and clearance of unpaid wages dating back to 2017.

Additionally, the syndicate called for the rectification of faculty and assistant faculty situations, including promotions and the acknowledgment of academic rights as stipulated by law since before 2014, alongside urging the government to ensure health insurance for faculty members.
