AL-JAWF, Yemen — On January 4, 2025, armed clashes broke out between tribal militants and Houthi forces in the Al-Jawf governorate, northeastern Yemen. According to local sources, the fighting occurred in the Khabb wa ash Sha'af district, where tensions have been high since the Houthis took control of the area in 2020.
The clashes involved medium and light weaponry and were primarily between members of the Dhu Hussein tribe and Houthi fighters near the "Zalaq" checkpoint in the town of Al-Yutamah. The conflict reportedly ignited after Houthi personnel fired upon a vehicle belonging to a member of the Dhuh Hussein tribe, prompting a retaliatory attack from the tribesmen.
Sources confirmed that the confrontations resulted in the burning of a Houthi vehicle at the Zalaq checkpoint.
Al-Jawf has experienced ongoing tensions between local tribes and Houthi forces, often leading to violent confrontations due to the oppressive authority the group seeks to impose on the region.
