SAADA, Yemen — On January 5, 2024, the Houthi movement reported that the US-led international coalition launched three airstrikes targeting sites in Saada, the group's stronghold in northern Yemen.
According to Al-Masirah, a television channel affiliated with the Houthis, the US aircraft conducted the strikes east of Saada city. The report did not provide further details regarding the specific locations hit or the impact of the strikes. As of 11 a.m., there has been no response from either the United States or the United Kingdom regarding the airstrikes.
Saada province is known as the primary base for the Iran-backed Houthi group, which shares a land border with Saudi Arabia. Since the beginning of 2024, Washington has intensified its military actions, conducting air and missile strikes on Houthi positions in response to their attacks on commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden.
