On January 5, 2025, the National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning issued a warning for a severe cold wave expected to affect seven provinces in Yemen in the coming hours. This follows the ongoing impact of a cold northern air mass over the region.

In its daily bulletin, which was followed by "Barran Press," the center indicated that extremely cold weather would blanket the mountainous areas, with frost formation anticipated in the provinces of Al-Bayda, Dhamar, Sana'a, Amran, Saada, and the highlands of Al-Dhale and Lahij.

The report further noted that cold to very cold conditions are expected in the highlands of Ibb, Abyan, Hadramout, and Al-Mahra, while cooler temperatures are predicted for the highlands of Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, Raymah, and Taiz. The center also forecasts the formation of cumulus clouds during the day over the western mountainous regions adjacent to the Tihama plain.

The expected "feels-like" temperatures for early Monday morning will drop to two degrees below zero in Dhamar, one degree below zero in Amran and Al-Bayda, and zero degrees in Saada and Sana'a.

Coastal areas are expected to experience partly cloudy conditions over the Socotra Archipelago, with clear to partly cloudy skies along the western and southern coasts. Additionally, active winds are anticipated at the entrance of Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden, with mild to moderate breezes along the remaining coasts.

The meteorological center cautioned that desert regions will experience clear and cold to very cold conditions during the nighttime and early morning hours, particularly in the provinces of Marib and Al-Jawf.

The National Center for Meteorology urged residents in the mountainous regions, interior plateaus, and deserts to take precautions against the cold and extremely cold weather during nighttime and early mornings. Farmers are advised to implement necessary measures to protect their crops, while livestock herders and poultry farmers should also take steps to safeguard their animals.
