MUKALLA, Yemen — The Security Committee of Hadramout province reiterated its commitment to prohibiting the entry and circulation of weapons within Mukalla, emphasizing that such items should be restricted solely to state authorities.
This announcement came during a meeting chaired by Hadramout Governor Mabkhoot bin Madi on January 5, 2025, to discuss current security developments and issues within the province, according to the Yemen News Agency (Saba).
The meeting underscored the readiness of security forces and the military to address any violations aimed at disrupting public security and stability. The committee emphasized the importance of identifying and pursuing suspects to bring them to justice.
Governor bin Madi stressed the necessity for all security and military personnel, as well as citizens, to uphold the progress achieved in Hadramout, particularly in the security and military sectors.
The Security Committee praised the community’s engagement with law enforcement agencies, encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities or violations.
This renewed focus on security follows a recent shooting incident at a qat market in the Gulf Complex in Mifaa, west of Mukalla, which resulted in injuries to several citizens and sparked public outrage demanding a ban on carrying weapons in the city.
Since July 2023, local authorities in Hadramout have launched a security campaign to prohibit carrying weapons in Mukalla, a measure that has now been reinforced following the recent incident.
