MARIB, Yemen — On January 5, 2025, healthcare professionals and workers in Marib province, northeastern Yemen, held a protest condemning the arrests and executions carried out by Israeli forces against medical staff in Gaza, Palestine.

During the demonstration, participants called for the immediate release of all detainees, particularly Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

In their statement, the protesters expressed solidarity with their counterparts in Gaza, acknowledging the severe risks faced by medical personnel and their families, who lack even the basic necessities to perform their duties.

The statement, which was shared with "Barran Press," highlighted that doctors in Gaza are subject to direct targeting, arrest, and torture by Israeli forces, violating international laws and norms.

The protestors condemned the Israeli occupation for its brutal efforts to evacuate hospitals and medical facilities, falsely accusing them as a pretext for destruction.

"The atrocities faced by the health sector in Gaza constitute complete war crimes and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law," the statement read.

It further noted that the inhumane actions of the occupation have deprived tens of thousands of injured and ill individuals, including children and newborns, of essential medical care, leading to numerous deaths.

The statement affirmed that hospitals, health centers, and all medical personnel, including doctors, nurses, and emergency teams, are entitled to protection against assaults and targeting during wars and conflicts.

The protestors held the occupation fully responsible for the deteriorating health situation in Gaza, which has resulted in hospitals being rendered non-operational and increased mortality among patients, including infants.

They called on the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to halt these crimes and provide urgent protection for medical personnel and facilities in Gaza, as well as to allow for the urgent entry of medical aid to alleviate the situation in hospitals and facilitate the transfer of those needing medical care outside Gaza.

The healthcare professionals in Yemen urged for the perpetrators of these crimes to be brought before the International Criminal Court to ensure justice and accountability for their egregious violations against humanity.
