Marib Planning Director Discusses Youth Empowerment and Health Initiatives for Displacement Camps

MARIB, Yemen — On January 7, 2025, the Director of the Planning and International Cooperation Office in Marib, Engineer Saleh Al-Saqaf, held two separate meetings to discuss enhancing youth involvement and upcoming health projects in displacement camps.

In his first meeting, Al-Saqaf met with representatives from the "Empowering Youth" organization, including its President, Maqbool Al-Kamel, and Secretary-General Ali Khawja. The discussions centered on the organization's efforts to empower the youth of Marib and increase their participation in various developmental fields.

Al-Saqaf emphasized the importance of collaboration between government entities and non-governmental organizations to achieve sustainable development goals, highlighting youth as a crucial factor in driving progress and growth. He commended the active role of the Empowering Youth organization and expressed his support for expanding its activities to better serve the interests of young people and contribute to a more developed and stable community.

Al-Kamel outlined the organization's key programs focusing on economic, scientific, social, and psychological empowerment, underscoring its commitment to preparing youth for challenges and encouraging their participation in community development.

According to the Planning Office, this meeting represents a significant step toward enhancing cooperation among relevant stakeholders to create an environment conducive to developing youth capabilities and fulfilling their aspirations.

In a second meeting, Al-Saqaf discussed the activities and projects planned by the Medical Association for implementation in displacement camps in 2025. This coordination meeting included the association's representative, Abdul Wahid Al-Junaid, and the Director of the Social Affairs and Labor Office, Abdul Hakim Al-Qaisi.

The meeting covered the Medical Association's plans for vital projects, including mobile and fixed clinics to enhance medical services in the camps, voluntary visits from specialist doctors to provide treatment and consultations, ensuring sustainable drug supplies, and training health sector officials in the camps.

Al-Saqaf stressed the importance of joint coordination with the relevant offices, including the Health Office and the Executive Unit for Displaced Persons, to ensure efficient project implementation that meets the urgent health needs of the displaced population. Al-Qaisi also highlighted the necessity of integrated efforts among all stakeholders to improve health services in the camps, praising the humanitarian role played by the Medical Association.

This series of meetings comes amid increasing challenges faced by displaced persons in the region, underscoring the need for additional resources to improve health and service conditions for those affected.
