Ataq International Airport Reopens, Enhancing Shabwa's Position, Says Governor

SHABWA, Yemen — On January 8, 2025, Yemen's General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology announced the reopening of Ataq International Airport in Shabwa province, southeast Yemen, confirming its readiness to receive and dispatch flights starting today.

In a statement issued to all airlines and international organizations operating in Yemen, the Authority assured that Ataq Airport is fully operational in terms of both technical and administrative readiness. The airport's international code, recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization, is OYAT.

The Authority explained that the decision to open Ataq International Airport follows the completion of all necessary preparations, overseen by the Ministry of Transport and the General Authority for Civil Aviation, in coordination with local authorities and the airport's management.

Shabwa Governor Awd Muhammad bin al-Wazir praised the announcement, describing it as a significant development for enhancing the province's infrastructure and supporting both local and international air traffic.

In a post on X, the governor highlighted that the reopening of Ataq International Airport will create economic and developmental opportunities, facilitate the movement of citizens and residents, support international companies and organizations, and elevate the economic and tourism profile of Ataq city and Shabwa province on both local and global scales.
