On January 8, 2025, the Security Media Center of Yemen's internationally recognized Interior Ministry reported that 124 individuals died or were injured in traffic accidents during the first week of the new year in areas under government control.
The center detailed that nine people lost their lives in traffic incidents in Lahij province, including five who died when a bus overturned last Saturday. The remaining fatalities included two in Aden, one in Abyan, and one in Lahij.
During the same period, traffic accidents resulted in 111 injuries, with 68 of them classified as severe. The financial losses from these incidents exceeded 22.5 million Yemeni riyals.
Traffic police attributed the accidents to violations of road safety rules, primarily speeding, dangerous overtaking, distractions while driving, and neglecting vehicle maintenance and technical readiness before driving.
