TAIZ, Yemen — On January 8, 2025, local and military sources reported that eight members of the Houthi group, classified internationally as a terrorist organization, were killed or injured in clashes with the Yemeni Army in Taiz province, southwestern Yemen.

According to sources speaking to Barran Press, the Houthis stormed a civilian home in the village of Al-Fazarem Abous in the Hifan district, disturbing the peace and frightening women and children without explanation. They then abducted a young man from the village who attempted to intervene.

Residents of the village, located near Houthi-controlled areas close to front lines, issued a distress call to the Yemeni Army forces stationed nearby, seeking protection from Houthi violations.

In response, violent armed confrontations erupted between the Yemeni Army units, including the 4th Hazm Brigade and the Republican Guards, and Iranian-backed Houthi fighters. The clashes resulted in the deaths of three Houthis and injuries to five others.

Sources indicated that the Houthis sent significant reinforcements from the Al-Rahida area to the conflict zone in Hifan, comprising 12 military vehicles, five of which were equipped with medium machine guns.

Despite the additional Houthi forces, the group was reportedly compelled to halt its advance and raise a white flag to allow the Yemeni Army to retrieve the bodies of the deceased and the injured from the mountains where the fighting occurred.

The ongoing conflict in Taiz has seen escalating violence due to continued Houthi offensives targeting villages and residential areas, as well as raids on civilian homes near the front lines.
