Iran-backed Houthi forces launched a multi-wave assault on the village of Al-Hanakah in the Quraishiyah district of Al-Baydha governorate, central Yemen. The attack, which involved tanks, drones, and heavy artillery, has triggered intense clashes with local tribes.

According to local sources, the Houthi bombardment targeted civilian homes, causing widespread destruction. The residence of Sheikh Mohammad Al-Masoudi was reportedly destroyed, trapping several residents, including women and children, beneath the debris.

Pre-invasion shelling severed communication and internet services, isolating the besieged villagers. Reports suggest significant casualties on both sides, with the fighting showing no signs of abating. Following the bombardment, Houthi forces reportedly raided several homes, disregarding the safety of families.

The United States strongly condemned the attacks. "We strongly condemn the Houthi attacks against innocent civilians in Al-Bayda. The unlawful killings, injuries, and detentions by the terrorist Houthis deny the Yemeni people peace and a brighter future," U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagin said in a statement.

The assault on Al-Hanakah is part of a broader campaign that began on January 4, 2025, with a Houthi blockade imposed on the village. Located approximately six kilometers from the city of Rada'a and near strategic military sites, the area has endured relentless bombardment for several days.

The Houthis alleged they launched the offensive under the pretext of capturing individuals wanted by their forces, whom local tribes have refused to surrender.
