Local authorities in Marib are set to open an office for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to address the increasing humanitarian needs due to rising displacement in the region.

During a meeting with Andrea Pasquarelli, the acting head of the ICRC office, Deputy Governor Abdu Rabbu Miftah highlighted the deteriorating conditions for internally displaced persons (IDPs). He pointed out that economic challenges, including inflation and currency devaluation, have exacerbated the humanitarian situation.

Miftah noted significant gaps in essential services such as shelter, food, water, and healthcare. He emphasized the urgent need for the ICRC to expand its activities to include the districts of Harib and Raghwan.

Pasquarelli confirmed that the ICRC’s action plan for 2025 includes broadening its support in health and agriculture, alongside ongoing services to local authorities.
