The Iran-backed Houthis has referred journalist Mohammed Al-Maiyahi, who has been detained since September, to a Houthi-controlled court, according to human rights sources in Sana'a on Monday.

Lawyer Abdulmajid Sabra stated that Al-Maiyahi was interrogated at the Specialized Criminal Prosecution in Sana'a. The investigating officer decided to refer Al-Maiyahi's case to the press and publications prosecution, citing his work as a journalist. Sabra mentioned that the charges against Al-Maiyahi, based on police intelligence reports, accuse him of publishing articles that incite against the state (the Houthis) and its political system.

On September 20, the Houthis abducted Al-Maiyahi after he published a critical article about the group's celebration of the Prophet's birthday and its leader’s speech. Armed Houthi men and women stormed his home, seized his devices, and took him to an undisclosed location.

In his article, Al-Maiyahi had criticized the Houthis' celebration and expressed his views on Abdul Malik Al-Houthi's speech at Al-Sabeen Square in Sana'a.
