On January 14, 2025, the EU Naval Force in the Red Sea reported a rescue by ITS Caio Duilio, saving a Yemeni sailor from a sinking boat in Bab al-Mandab. The sailor was handed to Djibouti authorities on January 13.
The EU emphasized the priority of sailor safety. In December, EUNAVFOR successfully protected commercial vessels in the region. Since February, the mission has conducted about 500 operations, addressing threats from the Iran-backed Houthi group's attacks on shipping lanes.
