20 Ethiopian Migrants Die in Boat Capsize Off Taiz Coast

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that 20 Ethiopian migrants, including 9 women, died when their boat capsized off the coast of Taiz, Yemen, on January 18, 2025. The vessel, carrying 35 Ethiopian migrants and two Yemeni crew members, overturned due to strong monsoon winds. Fifteen migrants and the crew survived. The IOM highlighted the extreme dangers migrants face on this route.
