Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has underscored the critical importance of concerted regional efforts to restore security in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and ensure safe navigation in the Red Sea.

Following a meeting with Djibouti's Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the Egyptian presidency emphasized the need to enhance regional security cooperation. Discussions covered developments in Somalia and the importance of maintaining stability in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea.

The meeting comes amidst ongoing security challenges in the region. The Iran-backed Houthi militia has launched attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea, disrupting global trade flows and forcing some shipping companies to reroute vessels through the longer Cape of Good Hope route, bypassing the Suez Canal.
