Human rights sources reported today the death of a detainee in a prison operated by the Iran-backed Houthi group in Al-Bayda Governorate, central Yemen. The individual died just two days after being abducted.
Sources accused the Houthis of assassinating Mukhtar Ali Yaqout Al-Ahmadi, a resident of the Qifa area in Radaa. Al-Ahmadi was reportedly abducted from his home and imprisoned in Al-Sawadiya prison.
His family was informed of his death shortly after. Upon retrieving his body, they reportedly found signs of torture.
The death is the latest in a disturbing trend of detainee deaths and alleged assassinations in Houthi prisons, with many victims reportedly dying as a result of torture.
Just days earlier, on February 1, 2025, sources reported the death of Mohamed Ali Al-Naseem shortly after his release from five years of captivity in a Houthi prison. Sources close to Al-Naseem told Barran Press that his health had severely deteriorated due to the physical and psychological torture he endured during his imprisonment.
