Units of the National Shield Forces have arrived in Al-Mahra, eastern Yemen.
The deployment includes military vehicles and equipment, and the forces were transported from training camps on the Yemen-Saudi border. The contingent, led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Sadaif Al-Jedeeh, is comprised entirely of Mahri personnel.
Images and videos of the deployment circulated on social media, generating varied reactions among Al-Mahra residents. This follows a recruitment drive in the province announced by the National Shield Forces in early January.
Established by a presidential decree in January 2023, the Nation Shield Forces act as a reserve force under the command of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi. They consist of two divisions, one based in Aden and the other in Hadramaut, with additional units at the Al-Anad military base in Lahj.
