U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has commended the Yemeni Coast Guard for intercepting a shipment of advanced Iranian weapons destined for the U.S.-designated terrorist group, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
CENTCOM, in a statement released on its official X account, praised the Coast Guard's seizure of advanced Iranian weapon components, drones, and communication equipment.
On February 12th, the Yemeni Coast Guard intercepted a dhow in the southern Red Sea, reportedly originating from Iran and bound for the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeidah. According to CENTCOM, the dhow had a 40-foot container containing qualitative military equipment, including cruise missiles' structures, jet engines used in cruise missiles and suicide drones, reconnaissance drones, in addition to marine radars, a modern jamming system, and an advanced wireless communications system.
This interception marks the first publicly acknowledged seizure of Iranian arms shipments intended for the Houthis by the Yemeni Coast Guard. Previous interdictions have been conducted by international forces operating in the region.
