The Arab League summit on Palestine, originally planned for February in Cairo, has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts among participating leaders, according to Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki.
In lieu of the summit, a quintet meeting will take place in Riyadh on February 20th, bringing together representatives from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. This meeting will focus on coordinating Egyptian proposals to be presented at the rescheduled Cairo summit.
The emergency summit aims to forge a unified Arab stance on the Palestinian issue, particularly rejecting the proposed displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, a plan reportedly backed by the American administration.
Egyptian sources recently disclosed a counter-proposal to the U.S. plan. This Egyptian initiative reportedly involves the formation of a Palestinian governing committee for Gaza, excluding Hamas, and a renewed push for a two-state solution.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has stated Egypt's commitment to a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza that does not involve the displacement of its residents.
