The Taiz Security Committee announced on Friday the enforcement of the Demonstrations and Protests Law and refuted allegations that Governor Nabil Shamsan ordered the suppression of teacher protests.
In a statement released by the Security Media Center, the committee denied social media claims that Governor Shamsan instructed police to forcibly disperse peaceful teacher demonstrations. The committee clarified that the governor's directives are binding for all security agencies, labeling the claims as false.
The statement emphasized the local authority's recognition of the teachers' demands and confirmed ongoing efforts to find solutions. It also acknowledged the Taiz Police Directorate's role in providing protection for protests, while stressing the importance of maintaining public order and freedom of expression.
The committee reiterated its decision, made during a meeting on February 18, 2025, to implement the Demonstrations and Protests Law to ensure security in Taiz.
The committee urged all parties to respect its decisions and cooperate with security agencies, calling for accurate news reporting to safeguard Taiz's interests and prevent the spread of misinformation.
The statement countered earlier reports that Governor Shamsan had directed security forces to use force against teacher protests, a directive allegedly refused by Police Director Brigadier General Mansour Al-Akhali.
