A Sudanese army plane crashed into a residential area of Omdurman on February 26, 2025, killing 46 people, among them a senior military officer, and injuring 10 others, according to the Khartoum state media office. The aircraft, which had just taken off from Wadi Seidna airport west of Khartoum, went down late Tuesday, claiming both civilian and military lives, the Sudanese army reported via Reuters.

The incident ignited a fire in Omdurman’s Block 75, which firefighting crews later subdued. The army stated that medical care was provided to the injured but offered no specifics on the crash’s cause or a detailed victim count. Sources speaking to Reuters confirmed that Major General Bahar Ahmed, a prominent commander in Khartoum-area military efforts, was among the fatalities.
