The US-based Center for Justice (ACJ) has issued a scathing condemnation of the Yemeni government's suspension of wages for displaced employees, labeling the move "unjustified" and illegal. Since July 2024, these employees, who fled Houthi-controlled areas, have been left without income, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis, according to a statement seen by "Barran Press" on February 28, 2025.
The ACJ highlighted the devastating impact of the policy, coordinated by Yemen's Ministries of Finance and Civil Service, stating that it deprives displaced individuals of crucial financial support, pushing them further into poverty. The group stated that the suspension violates fundamental economic and social rights protected by Yemeni and international law.
The ACJ urgently called for an independent investigation, demanding accountability and the immediate reinstatement of all withheld salaries to safeguard the dignity and rights of displaced Yemenis.
