On March 7, 2025, Yemen called on the international community and the UN Security Council to enforce international law and demand Israel’s immediate withdrawal from occupied Syrian territories. The appeal came during an extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, led by Yemen’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mustafa Noman, as reported by the Yemeni news agency Saba.
Yemen denounced Israel’s incursions into Syrian territory as violations of international law and attacks on Syrian sovereignty. Recent Israeli operations included a military search for weapons in Quneitra province, near the occupied Golan Heights, where Syrian villages have faced repeated incursions.
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz defended the actions, stating that Israel would maintain a presence in security zones and on Mount Hermon to counter threats from Syria and safeguard the Golan and Galilee regions. On December 8, 2024, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Israeli forces to seize the buffer zone with Syria, emphasizing the need to monitor developments and secure Israel’s borders.
