On March 8, 2025, the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms reported that the Iran-backed Houthis committed 5,282 violations against women in Yemen between January 1, 2017, and January 1, 2025. The findings were released on International Women’s Day, documenting abuses across 17 provinces, including Al-Hodeidah, Al-Dhale, Taiz, Hajjah, Dhamar, Lahj, Marib, Raymah, Shabwah, Ibb, Abyan, Amanat Al Asimah, Al-Bayda, Al-Jawf, Saada, Sanaa, Aden, and Amran.

The violations comprised 1,466 killings and 3,379 injuries caused by artillery shelling, landmine explosions, sniper fire, and random gunfire. Additionally, the Houthis were responsible for 547 cases of kidnapping, disappearance, and torture. Of these, 69 women were held in secret prisons, enduring enforced disappearances lasting from three months to a year, with some still unaccounted for—including 47 cases in Amanat Al Asimah, 13 in Sanaa, and nine in Al-Hodeidah.

The report underscored that Houthi shelling continues to target residential areas far from conflict zones, leaving women vulnerable. The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms urged the international community and the UN Security Council to act decisively to protect Yemen’s women from these practices.
