Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi called for increased international support to address Yemen’s economic, service, and humanitarian crises, as well as to strengthen efforts against terrorism and organized crime.
In a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Steven Fagin, Al-Alimi underscored the threat posed by the Iran-backed Houthi and their ongoing human rights violations, according to the Yemeni News Agency, Saba.
He commended U.S. humanitarian efforts and its role in intercepting Iranian arms shipments to the Houthis. Al-Alimi expressed hope for deeper cooperation to tackle Yemen’s challenges and counter regional threats.
Welcoming Washington’s re-designation of the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, Al-Alimi reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to working with the international community to implement the decision while mitigating its humanitarian impact.
