The National Bloc in Yemen has called upon the Yemeni government to capitalize on recent US sanctions against the Iran-backed Houthis to accelerate the end of the ongoing coup.

During a meeting led by Ahmed Obaid Bin Daghr, the bloc discussed strategies to restore the state and counter the Houthi insurgency. A statement released by the bloc welcomed the US sanctions as a crucial step towards disrupting terrorism financing and dismantling the Houthi coup.

The National Bloc stressed the necessity for the Yemeni government to strategically utilize these sanctions across diplomatic, economic, and political channels. This approach aims to intensify pressure on the Houthis and curb their violations.
Furthermore, the bloc underscored the importance of national unity and called on the armed forces to maintain readiness for any potential escalation, ensuring the prevention of enemy advancements.
This call followed the US Treasury's March 2025 sanctions targeting seven senior Houthi leaders, including Mahdi Al-Mashat, for activities such as smuggling military equipment and negotiating arms deals with Russia. The US also sanctioned a Houthi-affiliated agent and their company for recruiting Yemenis to fight in Ukraine. These actions build upon the US designation of the Houthis as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" earlier in March, fulfilling a previous call by President Donald Trump.
