On Thursday, Tariq Saleh, a member of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, characterized Marib as an "impregnable fortress" and a symbol of resistance against the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
During a meeting with tribal leaders and dignitaries from Marib and Al-Jawf, Saleh lauded Marib as the "Fortress of the Republic," emphasizing its role in defending the Yemeni revolution and the republican system. This statement was reported by the official Yemeni News Agency Saba.
Saleh asserted that the Houthi mobilization towards Marib is driven by a desire to offset perceived Iranian losses in Lebanon and Syria. He stressed the importance of bolstering military efforts with heightened national awareness and social cohesion, particularly during Ramadan, to provide assistance to vulnerable populations.
He acknowledged the contributions of the Marib and Al-Jawf tribes in opposing the Houthi movement and commended the efforts of Marib Governor and member of the Presidential Leadership Council Sultan Al-Arada, Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Sagheer bin Aziz, and frontline combatants.
Saleh urged Marib tribes to strengthen security measures by collaborating with state authorities and the military to apprehend Houthi cells attempting to destabilize the region. He called upon the community to support the state's initiatives to counter Houthi infiltration into liberated areas.
Participants from Marib and Al-Jawf expressed appreciation for Saleh's national positions and his provision of humanitarian aid to displaced and impoverished families. They also praised his efforts to unify national forces in order to restore state authority and retake the capital, Sana'a.
