Houthis are expanding missile launch platforms and constructing new roads in Taiz Governorate, southwestern Yemen, military sources reported Friday.

The Iran-backed Houthis have concentrated their efforts in mountainous areas overlooking the Red Sea, according to sources speaking to Barran Press.

In Maqbanah District, northwest of Taiz, the Houthis are building roads in the Mirab Shamir mountains, coercing local residents into labor. These roads lead to strategic peaks overlooking coastal areas, including Hays, Al-Khokha, and Al-Mokha, and Al-Barah axis, where joint forces are stationed.

"These roads aim to facilitate the movement of heavy equipment and establish missile platforms, weapons storage facilities, and other military infrastructure," confirmed Hamid Al-Khalidi, Director General of Maqbanah District.

Local sources indicated the Houthis intend to position missile launch sites on the Mirab mountain range to target international shipping lanes and prepare for potential renewed conflict. Military sources also reported that the Houthis have deployed missile bases in agricultural areas near Sixty Street in northern Taiz and east of the city, utilizing dense vegetation for concealment.
These developments coincide with the Houthis' recent announcement to resume attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Bab al-Mandab Strait, citing alleged Israeli restrictions on aid to Gaza.
