On Saturday, customs officials at the Shahn border post in Al-Mahrah governorate, near Oman, seized five drone control devices.
The operation, conducted with security forces, seized PPM-type devices capable of encoding remote control signals, as reported by September Net. Shahn Customs Director Thabit Awad said the seizure complies with regulations to prevent the flow of dual-use goods with potential military applications. The Shahn crossing is a well-known conduit for smuggling weapons and equipment to the Iran-backed Houthis, a group designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries.
A recent U.S. investigation, cited by The New York Times, uncovered efforts to smuggle advanced drone technologies to the Houthis, including hydrogen fuel cell components that could improve drone stealth and range. These findings underscore the persistent threat from Iranian-supplied equipment.
