The Iran-backed Houthi group has closed its Baghdad office, reportedly following directives from Iran, according to Asharq Al-Awsat. Sources cited by the London-based publication indicate that the closure resulted from pressure exerted by Iraqi Shiite factions and increased international scrutiny.
The office, which had notably increased its activity following the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation, displayed banners featuring Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.
Iranian officials, including Quds Force leader Esmail Qaani, have reportedly warned Iraqi Shiite groups about potential U.S. retaliatory strikes. Tehran is believed to be concerned that U.S. military action in Iraq could occur if these factions demonstrate solidarity with the Houthis.
The office's closure reflects heightened tensions following U.S. criticism and recent military actions targeting the Houthi movement.
