On Tuesday, the United States stated that its military operations in Yemen are directed solely at the Iran-backed Houthis and their military assets, not civilians. The statement, posted by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen on X, emphasized Washington’s commitment to avoiding harm to non-combatants.

“The current campaign against the Houthis aims to target only the Houthis and their military capabilities, not the civilians held hostage to their cynical authoritarian rule,” the embassy stated. It also reiterated U.S. support for the Yemeni people in their pursuit of peace and stability.

Since March 15, U.S. airstrikes have hit Houthi-controlled bases and military installations in provinces including Sanaa, Saada, Dhamar, Al-Bayda, Marib, and Hajjah. According to Reuters, U.S. officials indicated that the strikes could persist for weeks, with President Donald Trump authorizing a more aggressive stance against the Iran-backed group than the previous administration.
