UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg concluded a Brussels visit Thursday, urging the European Union's Political and Security Committee to maintain a unified international front on Yemen amid escalating regional tensions.
Grundberg, who met with senior EU officials including Gulf envoy Luigi di Maio, stressed the urgency of a peaceful resolution, warning that a return to full-scale war "serves no one's interests," according to a statement by the UN Special Envoy Office.
"After a decade of conflict... a peaceful and stable Yemen is undeniable, not only for the Yemeni people but for regional stability," Grundberg stated. He emphasized that de-escalation requires "diplomacy grounded in dialogue and mutual commitment" from all parties, with sustained international support.
He called for a "unified stance" from the international community to secure a sustainable resolution for Yemen, and expressed gratitude for the EU's "steadfast and unwavering commitment" to alleviating the suffering of Yemenis. "I am dedicated to further strengthening our partnership for the benefit of the Yemeni people in their pursuit of peace," he concluded.
