On Thursday, a significant national effort to address the critical state of Yemen's education system commenced today in Marib with the launch of the National Education Conference. Deputy Governor Mohammed Al-Maawdi inaugurated the event, emphasizing the urgent need for unified national efforts to overcome the multifaceted challenges facing the sector and implement meaningful improvements.

Dr. Abdulhamid Amer, head of the National Center for Strategic Studies, highlighted the extensive nine-month preparatory phase leading up to the main conference, scheduled for May 5–6, 2025. The upcoming event will provide a platform for in-depth examination of the current conditions within both public and university education. It aims to actively engage a broad range of stakeholders to collaboratively develop sustainable solutions and strategies for revitalization.

The initiative underscores the profound impact of the Iran-backed Houthi control over northern Yemen, which has significantly exacerbated the crisis in access to quality education. Actions attributed to the group, including the targeting of schools and educational resources, have further contributed to the deterioration of the education infrastructure.

This concerted national undertaking signifies a critical call for widespread collaboration to effectively address the deep-seated education crisis in Yemen and mitigate the detrimental effects of ongoing challenges on the nation's future.
