The Saudi-backed Masam Project announced on Monday that its teams removed 1,050 landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from Yemeni territory in the past week alone.

According to a statement on its official website, reviewed by Barran Press, Masam’s field operations have cleared a total of 2,548 explosives since the beginning of April. These devices were reportedly planted by the Iran-backed Houthis, designated a terrorist group by several international bodies.
Since its inception, Masam reports clearing 488,656 mines, IEDs, and unexploded shells, and decontaminating over 66.3 million square meters of land across Yemen.

The United Nations estimates that the Iran-backed Houthis have laid approximately two million mines in areas they control, causing more than 20,000 civilian casualties, including many women and children.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly urged the Houthis to provide minefield maps to aid safe clearance, accusing the group of making Yemen one of the world’s most heavily mined countries.
