Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman Rashad al-Alimi, speaking in Riyadh, framed the ongoing conflict as a "battle for salvation," emphasizing a unified front against the Houthi movement.
This declaration came during a high-level meeting with the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission and political party leaders, where al-Alimi highlighted the government's "encouraging strengths" and national consensus as key factors in shifting the balance of power.
According to Yemen's Saba news agency, discussions centered on the country's deteriorating economic situation, exacerbated by halted oil exports and currency instability. Al-Alimi also stressed military readiness and praised political actors for their role in the "republican alliance resisting the Houthi-backed theocratic project."
These meetings followed a separate session between Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, and the Yemeni political bloc. The ambassador reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to national reconciliation and regional stability, a message conveyed shortly after his visit to Tehran with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, where the Yemeni conflict was a key topic of discussion.
Al-Alimi acknowledged the shifting international perspective on Yemen, attributing it to coordinated efforts to counter "misleading narratives." He reiterated the PLC's openness to realistic peace initiatives while condemning Houthi attempts to destabilize internal fronts "through collusion with terrorist organizations."
These developments occur against a backdrop of heightened tensions in the Red Sea and continued U.S. airstrikes targeting Houthi positions. Analysts interpret Saudi Arabia's diplomatic efforts as a clear indication of its desire to de-escalate and pursue a broader political resolution, despite ongoing regional tensions.
