The internationally recognized Yemeni government on Friday condemned an Israeli airstrike that targeted the vicinity of the presidential palace in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
In a statement released on May 2, 2025, the government labeled the attack a "blatant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic."
The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs cautioned against the repeated "violations and crimes of the Israeli occupation" in regional countries, asserting that these actions "threaten security and stability in the region." The ministry urged the international community to uphold its legal and humanitarian responsibilities to halt such aggressions.
The statement reiterated Yemen's support for the unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The Israeli strike, which occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, hit a target close to the presidential palace in Damascus, marking the clearest indication yet of hostility towards the new Syrian authorities.
In response, the Syrian Presidency described the Israeli bombing near the presidential palace as a "dangerous escalation." A statement from the Syrian Presidency asserted that "this condemned attack reflects the continued reckless actions aimed at destabilizing the country, exacerbating security crises, and targeting national security and the unity of the Syrian people."
Israel has intensified its military operations in Syria since armed opposition factions ousted Bashar al-Assad in December. It has conducted airstrikes across the country, deployed ground forces in the southwest, and called for Syria to remain a decentralized and isolated state.
