Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman on Saturday decreed the appointment of Salem Saleh Salem bin Bureik as the new Prime Minister, succeeding Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak. The move came after reports of considerable strain in the relationship between bin Mubarak and the PLC Chairman, culminating in bin Mubarak's resignation.

According to the state news agency Saba, Presidential Decree No. 156 of 2025 designated bin Bureik as the head of the cabinet. A subsequent article in the same decree affirmed that the existing cabinet ministers would remain in their current capacities.

Concurrently, Presidential Decree No. 157 of 2025 named the outgoing Prime Minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, as an advisor to the PLC Chairman.

Bin Mubarak had earlier announced his departure via X, stating that he had submitted his resignation to the PLC Chairman.

In his resignation statement, bin Mubarak indicated that his time as Prime Minister was marked by significant obstacles, including alleged restrictions on his constitutional powers to make essential decisions and the prevention of a necessary cabinet reshuffle. These assertions point towards a notable discord and potential power dynamics at play within the Yemeni leadership.
