Joint security forces in Lahj Governorate have intercepted a second shipment of weapons destined for the Houthi group within a week, a military source reported on Sunday.

According to a statement released by the media center of the Giants Brigades, the joint security campaign forces stationed in Al-Mudarabah and Ras al-Ara areas successfully seized a smuggling vessel carrying rockets and ammunition approximately 12 nautical miles off the coast of Ras al-Ara, near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The statement detailed that the intercepted boat contained a significant quantity of anti-armor "Law" rockets, BMB ammunition, and offensive grenades. These weapons were allegedly en route to the Iran-backed Houthi group.

This interception followsled the seizure of another smuggled shipment of ammunition on April 28, 2025, by a checkpoint belonging to the same joint security forces in the Al-Mudarabah and Ras al-Ara directorate of Lahj Governorate. That shipment was also reportedly heading towards Houthi-controlled areas.

Security forces affiliated with the joint security campaign, comprising the Giants Brigades, the Nation Shield forces, and other government troops, are deployed along the extensive coastal strip stretching from Ras Imran in Aden Governorate to Bab al-Mandab, passing through Ras al-Ara.

The campaign has reportedly achieved some success in combating smuggling along the coast of Ras al-Ara and Al-Subaiha, an area that had been a hub for arms trafficking since its liberation in 2015. The region has also been active in the smuggling of African migrants and human trafficking.
