Military sources announced Saturday the successful disruption of two significant weapons smuggling attempts in the Red Sea.
Yemen's official Saba news agency reported that First Marine Infantry Brigade and Coast Guard patrols conducted two separate interdictions, seizing two dhows carrying a large cache of bomb-making materials and a satellite communication system intended for the Iran-backed Houthis.
The operations led to the apprehension of 14 crew members whose initial interrogation linked them to the Houthi movement.
The intercepted vessels were reportedly en route to Houthi-held Ras Issa port in Hodeidah, carrying a staggering 3 million detonators, 3,600 kilometers of wiring, and 64 satellite communication units.
Saba detailed that the confiscated detonators are used by the Houthis in booby-trapped vessels, suicide drones, and remotely detonated landmines, utilizing batteries, remote controls, or infrared, while the wiring is essential for connecting explosive networks.
